275/40/20 Nitto NT05R vs 1320 Nexen’s worth it?

The current rear tires on my ‘Cat are Nexen Drag Spec’s off a 1320 Challenger. They’re decent and worlds better than the Summer Pirelli’s. Was thinking about trying the Nitto NT05R’s to replace the Nexen’s on the stock rims in the stock 275/40/20 size. Worth it? Any thoughts and feedback are appreciated. Thanks as always.

Nitto 555R2 are a much better tire all the way around

Not all the way around when comparing all tires here but yea definately better than the 05 or Pirelli for sure. The 555R2's are sketchy AF in the rain tho. I have both the 555R2 and the Coni Extreme's on different cars and I really like the 555R2 as well.

Like with ANY drag radial tire after a month or two the water bands disappear and become useless in the rain. They are hardly there to begin with just like the MT SS. If fact, they are only there to make them street legal.

Honestly, I have not found the 555R2 to hook up any better when its dry out then the Conti. Maybe a slight advantage to the Nitto when launching. From a roll I see no difference.

They are both very similar as far as sticky grip goes but the Conti is AWESOME in the rain, lasts longer than a PS4 or the 555R2, will cost less than ALL of them and can be run into a corner harder than a PS4!!!

It really is the ultimate tire to get right now IF ur not looking for a dig hook up ONLY tire then I agree the 555R2 is a little better but the MT SS is better than the Nitto 555R2 for digs tho but they will not last long at all and are even worse then the Nitto's s far as the water bands disappearing FAST!

I have the MT SS up front on my grudge Hawk. I changed to those over the 555R2. It just spun less period but they get eaten up REALLY fast on the street. Not a good DD tire at all.

I get about 3-4 months on the 555R2's during the summer then they still work really good when dry out but I dont even consider going out in the rain tho cause theyre just slicks with sidewalls at that point and sketchy AF!

Its rained HARD yesterday and I was out in my DD Hawk with 555R2's but thats AWD so hardly apples to apples to a Challenger but to my surprise I only hydroplaned a few times but again these are brand new with 2k miles on em and im AWD.

And im not sure anyone would consider the NT05 these days it was one of the worst tires ive ever used. The 555R2 is light years ahead of it.

I heard the continentals are a good tire but my response was the 555r2 are a better tire then the 05 and nexens. I drove the 555r2 in many rain stroms and never had an issue why I used them for daily driving

I've got the Nitto 555r2's on mine but I can't compare to the other tires mentioned. Obviously they hook sooo much better than stock Pirelli all seasons. I can be much more aggressive with throttle input now. Also, I've been caught in rain once and I didn't feel nervous or worried at any point. Very good tire in my opinion and I would lean towards running them again when replacement time comes..

Nitto promotes the 555r2 for the NMCA hemi shootout so that should say everything

Yea totally agree the 555R2 is a great tire. Freaking down pours two days ago and I was shocked how well they worked but again they are new so mid summer they will be sketchy AF lol but yes light years ahead of the 05/nexens for sure.

I've used both the M/T ET Street SS and R on one of my Turbo Buicks with good results and have the R's on my drag pack set up for the 'Cat on Truimph wheels. All good. Was just wondering if the Nitto's were a step up from the Nexen's as far as a tire you could drive daily, weather not withstanding. Sounds like the answer is yes, at least for the 555R2's. Someone also posted on another forum that the NT05R's helped signifcantly with wheel hop over the Nexen's which was one of the reasons why I started to research this subject.

Well, I guess it depends on how often u drive ur car and how u drive it. Me, I go thru the 555R2's every 4-5 months if im lucky. But I also smash my Trackhawk at every stop light lol but if u drive a normal human being the water groves should last a decent amount of time but they are much smaller than the Nexans rain groves but bite MUCH harder! I would avoid the Nexan bro.

Ud be surprised how close the dig hook up grip is between the 555R2 and the Cont Extreme Contact Sport 02's and the Conti's do everything but if I was comparing the two for digs id say the 555R2 is the winner. Its just a dope tire hooks great up to about 800 whp in a Hellcat.

Never considered the Conti's. At that I guess I'd have to replace all four tires then.
