Pomona! Well, it was a bit of a cluster for me. Due to the expected crowd, the pits were reduced to a side by side parking lot. Once I got in, I was locked. I couldn’t have gotten out if I had to. Registration and tech took 3 hours in the 90 degree heat. They cut the 4 expected qualifying/test passes to 2 and informed everybody that there wouldn’t be any time slips because it wasn’t working. I knew the track temp was going to be just about sun surface temps so I decided to sit out the first run and see if anybody could get down the track. I know what my car drives like on a slippery surface. I was right… nobody on radials could get off the line. I decided that rather than risk getting into the wall to run a bracket race, I would sit it out and just have fun with my wife. Fortunately my trailer has air conditioning so we could get out of the heat when we needed to. Choosing not to run was a mistake. Sunday was perfect. Cool temps and enough cloud cover that the track was good. Hundreds of the coolest drag cars running and I was sitting it out 🙁. Bad decision on my part. But then I got lucky 😁. I was invited to drive the car that started it all for me. The Grinch. Six years ago it was the fastest Hellcat in the country running 9.1’s in Las Vegas. I saw that when my car was running 11’s and decided someday I was going to run against that car. Now I’m working with the guy who owns it. Currently it has a stock 6.2 Hellcat engine with a new Gen-6 3.0 Whipple on E85. Other than injectors and fuel pumps, it is a bone stock engine and drive line, including stock exhaust and driveshaft 😬. It’s a true daily driver at this point. Ran 9.3 at 152 mph on a soft leave to save the driveshaft. What a blast it was to drive the car that started it all for me! No. Those are just a set of older Welds that don’t have the proper backspace to tuck those 315’s in a little tighter. This car has basically sitting covered in Adams garage for 5 years without a engine. He sold the old race motor long ago. This car now probably has a 9.1 in it with nothing more than the new 3.0 on a stock long block. That’s pretty amazing.

Race seats 🤨 Can a seat save your ass? I just parked mine in my new ride and felt invincible 💪. 25D70C24-5F8D-471B-A221-AF600690C7B8.jpeg 062BC6BD-F715-4FB0-AD70-778B490591C1.jpeg 06B8CBE0-D70D-45E2-A636-42F1137DF6DC.jpeg 01C4F450-898C-4FE6-8433-90A7D3036A6E.jpeg B4AB0337-8941-45DB-81F2-A6E41E263B08.jpeg

Marc looks like I’m a little behind here. Where did you run with the whipple setup?

First time out with the 3.0 was Bakersfield last December. Had issues with the new Holley Smart coils but managed a 8.4. Replaced them and ran the Legions event in Houston and went 8.3 at 165 with the replacement set of coils crapping out there too. Called it quits with those and went with the MSD’s. That cured that problem and it ran 8.5 last March in Vegas at 4000 da. Then it got hot and we’ve been waiting for cooler weather. Next chance to run quarter mile will be Bakersfield again in December. That will be fast and I would expect low 8’s if we go. The best pass I’ve experienced with the car has been on the 1/8 mile at Irwindale. That is the closest track for me after Vegas. Low altitude SoCal (Las Angles) and I ran a 5.2 at 137. Not sure if I will run the current motor again as the turbo engine is coming together. I may try to go to Dallas for the Legions again but the turbos are going to have to be rolling to make that worth the expense with fuel costs what they are.

Right sometimes traveling that far to test isn’t worth it.

So…. Data logging has always been a pain in the ass when your locked down in the drivers seat with a harness. In the past the laptop has ridden in the passenger seat and somebody else had to start recording from the passenger side because I couldn’t reach it. Not anymore 🤗. I found this nifty laptop thing that will put the buttons at my fingertips to start and stop logging. It swivels around so the computer can face the passenger door for access from that direction too. The function/cool factor us off the charts 😜 4F7E96CB-5E13-4D5E-BF04-F45A9C8FA320.jpeg BFD7E330-14B1-4165-84D5-BFCD1B725AAC.jpeg 87703237-0B9B-45D0-B8E8-D53F31EFD9C8.jpeg DCDD1AAC-4238-465F-BCF7-63FAB7CCE3DB.jpeg

I love that that’s the best one I’ve seen. Mind me asking where you got it/brand?

I got if from Jeff Bezos. Just did a search on his website for laptop stands. It’s all aluminum and super solid (no plastic). I was amazed at the quality at that price E0448EE7-34C7-4D7A-9D37-5DE46AC72365.jpeg

On the news front…. We’re racing Bakersfield in one month from today. The weather is usually good and the track prep is better than we usually see anywhere else out west. We’re going to get aggressive with the 3.0 and see if that 7 will pop up. So…. the 2.75 pulley and conservative tune we’ve run has been just to make sure we don’t over do it while we are trying to get things figured out. This motor will be coming out in January as the new one will be done and the turbo install will start happening. So F it 😠. The dial is going to the right!

What keeps it from flying off after a pass?
