If someone doesn't pay sales tax on something, someone else (or a group of people) will have to make up for that.

You are costing other people money, no matter what you want to call it. Subsidy works for me, and probably most others.

I have to chime in that the way the gubberment hands out money everywhere except at home, get what you can get.

Maybe the definition of subsidy will be useful, a tax credit is not a subsidy.

You're twisting the definition of a subsidy in order to suit your case and to avoid admitting that you're accepting taxpayer-funded, government handouts. When the federal government issues farm subsidies (as per the example in your definition) they do so in order to balance supply and cost of agricultural commodities. These subsidies are provided to the producer. Tax credits (like the one you took advantage of) are government handouts to the end user in order to reward you for doing what the government urged you to do. One could say that taxpayers subsidized your purchase of an EV but that is not the same as saying that your taxpayer/government handout was a subsidy, as we have established by the definition that you provided.

But the best advice I can give you is, when you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop digging. At this point you just sound foolish. Maybe find another thread to post on, because you've dug too deep in this one.

Actually, just now (and just for kicks), I Googled "difference between handout and subsidy". This is what the Book Of Knowledge (Google) had to say:

"Government handouts are often given to people in need of help, such as the poor or disabled. Food stamps being an example. Subsidies are usually given to businesses. Renewable energy companies receive subsidies to help them compete and develop their technologies. Farmers receive subsidies to grow corn for ethanol production." I love my EV,s just trying to provide some facts. I own two (2) and will probably buy another one. Not sure who I would be saving face too.

What hole am I in and what would be digging it deeper?
