It's a literal dance around the side skirts, the fuel lines and the pinch weld on the Passenger's side, Driver's side isn't so bad. It does take me more than a minute to get everything just right.

Ease up, adjust, ease up, adjust, get annoyed, 'wonder why it's just an afterthought by Dodge...

I may need to ponder that for next time - I kind of wrote them off as not feasible for the Rango because of the large diameter vs rectangle shape. Yea, it took me a while fiddling with my approach just as you described, but I wasn't chancing anything. I might bug you for your exact recipe if you wouldn't mind sharing.

I guess the other thing of note, I've now done it many times, and I'm completely comfortable with oil changes and rotating tires, but with it up on top of the extensions, I would not likely do something like a transmission or heavy work where you MIGHT be yanking on the vehicle with a larger moment, unless I put some extra jackstands or something just incase the unthinkable happened.

I only bought the QJ because I don't have the headroom for a lift. :(

Yep, agree for sure - safety first with me. When I did my underneath projects on the Hellcat, I had it at max height on the 5000 lb unit, but with 2-4 supplemental jackstands just in case. Felt a little nervous at first, but I had it in the air like that for a week and a half, so by the end, was pretty comfortable with it.

I will say with the scheme I devised on the Durango, I only went up to the first lock, but at that height I was pleasantly surprised at the room I had - plenty for exhaust R&R which is on my to-do list, etc., not sure if enough for trans or transfer case though. Also not sure I would stomach it too well at max lift, even though it was rock solid at position 1.

I have the truck adapter pucks/posts if anyone wants to buy them. Used them to get my hellcat like 28” in the air to do oil pan gasket ( I jacked each side up and put wooden stands I made out of wood under each tire first)

Don’t have a QJ set up but used hydraulic cylinders on Injection molds for ejection on parts for about 18 years. When I could not get the connections together, I would put a rag over the end where the tip pushes in and push it against something hard to let the pressure release just a bit and if it was too much for that I would take a ball pein hammer and tap the tip a couple times to let the pressure off! Some times a little tap and there’s so much pressure it would make a misty cloud, hence the rag over the fitting.
Not sure if that’s helpful but that’s what I did for years.
UPDATE:

Bobo was spot on. Yesterday I pulled out the QJ for an oil change. It was hot. I could not snap the fittings together. I unscrewed the fittings to bleed the lines to relieve the pressure and they snapped right on.

My barn can get pretty hot, and the last time I used the QJ it was cool. Apparently the heat causes pressure in the lines high enough to prevent connection without damage. PITA, but it's something I'll have to do to avoid damaging more fittings.

I tried to bleed the lines by pushing the center but it wouldn't budge and I didn't want to force it and damage another one. I'll stick to unscrewing the fitting.
