No matter how good a deal an EV is, I would not get one. I don't put enough miles on to wear out the HC at my age so no sense in preserving it. Unless... I only use to to drive on heavily salted roads in winter.... Hmmm...

Yep, the distance is too far, way too much range anxiety, imo.

Oh, I wouldn't be anxious, just curious how far it'd go, not counting on making it all the way.

The downside is the spotty cell service, so the test runs would have to be with a tow vehicle and trailer (with a winch) following along.

But on the positive side, I could also bring a 6.5 KW generator and get a 2-5% charge on the way home. That way I wouldn't have to use the winch at home, too.

Come to think of it, this doesn't really sound like saving the planet, does it?

At first I thought it was a misprint, a $59/mo.lease is quite affordable. Went on the dealer's website to check the details.

With $2K down and for three years I thought what the heck let's do it. That's when I found out only Colorado residents qualify for a large chunk of the incentives. Oh well, I tried ...

We use ours for all errands which are less than 100/125 miles from the house (depending on the weather). Over the last 2.5 years we have driven the EVs for 75,000 miles, no drama, now charge at home, easy peasy

Not if you forget the charging cord at the store and keep having to go back to get it. Then it's only about 37,000 miles per year to run errands.

Which is still 5,500 miles more than I have put on my Ram 3500 since I bought it in '17. Of course, I also don't forget what car I'm supposed to pick up, anywhere from 300 to 1,200 miles away, so I don't bring a shopping list and forget a few items and have to go back.

We are just here until the next event, be it an asteroid that punctures the earth's crust, a severe solar flare, or the luck of the gravity of other celestial objects (including dark matter) that causes an excessively eccentric orbit, and humans are toast, (or frozen pop tarts)!

I'm still tryin to figure out 75,000 miles of errands

Three (3) drivers, two (2) EVs, they go everywhere that is within 100/125 miles of the house. Drive the ICE vehicles for only pleasure. One has almost 40,000 miles and original tires. I purchased three (3) EVs in 2022 (all Ioniq5), drove one for 8,000 miles and traded it in for $ 1,500.00 more than I paid for it. Two (2) were purchased in March and one (1) purchased in June.

In terms of operating cost, they are the cheapest I have ever owned. No expenses other than replacing the 12 volt batteries which only lasted around 2 years on both EVs. Free charging for the first 2 years, now charge at home, it costs in electricity $ 5.00 to go 200 miles, which is crack head cheap (after charge credit) without credit it would cost $ 10.00 which is still stupid cheap.

Easy to drive, handling is phenomenal, 0 to 60 in 3.5 seconds, AWD, direct drive-no transmission. For these reasons, I prefer an EV for local driving.

One driver (me), one vehicle (392 hemi), it brings smiles wherever I go. Driving batt vehicles never a consideration. Haven't purchased one, never will purchase one. I've purchased over two dozen cars in my life (many of which I wish I still had), none of which were plugged in next to my vacuum cleaner.

• ICE drivers don't make patently false claims that humans can "save" the planet
• ICE drivers don't shy away in embarrassment when asked to "Rev her up!"
• ICE drivers don't require electrical appendages installed in their garages to "fuel" their vehicle
• ICE drivers don't worry that if their vehicle ignites, it could take their local FD hours to put it out
• ICE drivers don't care about a car's 0-60 that literally has no personality whatsoever
• ICE drivers don't have to consult maps/apps to determine how far they can safely drive without getting stranded
• ICE drivers don't carry the stigma of potentially being viewed as a freedom hating wacko Socialist

I don't have to, but it's pretty damn convenient to have (on average) some 1,000 gallons of diesel and around 150 gallons of gas stored in tanks here at home.

The ones I dispense fuel from have a batteries powered by small solar panels, so I don't even need to rely on coal powered electricity from the grid to pump the fuel.

Since I don't need to go get fuel in small quantities (it's also cheaper to have it delivered) and run extremely few errands, I suppose I'm not only efficient but borderline green.

As an added bonus, this liquid energy is very easy to store, and I'd much rather be faced with 325 gallons (the largest tank size) on fire than a burning EV. If nothing else, either I have to do something stupid for the fire to start, or lightning could do it for me. The former is more likely, but either way the tanks will not catch fire by themselves, when they feel like it.

Well, I guess I do, I bought the lowest trim level truck and Jeep. I don't see the value in the high trim levels.

But I did opt for the biggest ICE available and lowest final drive ratio! I have my priorities!

I do local errands in the HC. Took the wife to the library, PO and Walmart.

If the car is clean and it is raining, I'll take the truck or Jeep.

I do. But only in the sense that I wish it went farther on a tank.

And please don't misinterpret that statement. It has nothing to do with the mpg it gets, but rather how small the tank is. To me the Challenger is the perfect GT car, with the exception of having to stop every 400 miles, or sooner, to fill it up.

In real life that means I have to get gas just about every time I drive it, and I hate stopping. But stopping for gas with 1/3 of a tank left (to make it home or to the next one) beats running out. And if I do, chances are bigger that someone eventually comes by that has a can of gas than somebody towing a generator.
