I just want to report that I didn't do a single darn thing to my Hellcat today!

Of course, that might be because I don't actually own a Hellcat.πŸ˜„πŸ˜‰πŸ˜Ž

Two competing issues.

The highest wear rate is on a cold engine, AND metals improve their wear characteristics when they are hot as well as mechanical clearances shrink to correct values.

Do you want to reduce the time of "highest wear", OR do you want to reduce the load from operation (piston pressures and velocity, etc) during the period of time that the engine is cold?

You can't have both.

I choose to reduce load and gently vary RPM.
So just how critical..(or cumulatively significant) is what we would consider the wear rate of a modern day cold engine start...on say a tear down of a 45/50 thousand mile engine...how far outta "new" spec would it be any idea:unsure:

Not surprised....not sure many...(or any) on here would know...It would seem far too many variables to consider or factor in....my guess..not enough data...or evidence to support either procedure....if so factory warnings would be more specific or emphatic.on such procedures...just my .02

Most of us will be dead before our engines wear out. No matter what we think of how the other guy abuses his car by doing or not doing something, we treat these things better than 99.9% of car owners.

I just cringe when I think about the ahole that underpays my widow for the car!

Guys are missing the obvious solution. Move to where it doesn’t get cold. Simple

Same lingering sentiment here...warm up..no warm up..the difference in wear is gonna be insignificant...now about that guy and yer car....if he's datin yer wife....(hey ya never know God rest yer soul)....he could be drivin yer car...bangin yer wife..drinkin yer Bourbon...and it wont cost him a dime...:giggle::giggle::giggle::giggle:;)

So this was the first time I personally, and for my car, that any of this area of the engine had ever been touched. I took my time, observing and thinking about things and being careful, and it took me about 2 hours from start to getting to the point of having the left side valve cover ready for removal but the 10 bolts not removed, plus 1 #1 spark plug out just to have a look at condition. If I had to do it the second time, I could easily knock off a 1/2 hour or so. Right side....that's for an upcoming session .

So based on this first session, my conclusions about the 1.7 hr book time for a complete spark plug R&R are:

1. Any tech assigned that job is, or soon will be, broke if his income depended on it.

2. I would hate to see the condition of the car/engine bay and related things after such an attempt to meet or better the book time - it would look like a train wreck IMO, especially to those of us that love our cars like babies and try to keep things nice and organized while minimizing collateral damage.
So you took the valve cover off to change the spark plugs? Not understanding this

Dropping the K-frame seems "easy"...

KNOWING what to do up top that makes that possible AND efficient... Yeah, that's not me.
You are looking at roughly 9 hours to drop and put back together with a lift if you never have done it
Plugs did go in easy last weekend though:p

Getting rid of the OEM valve covers and their Mt. Everest China Walls that make plug changes a nightmare. I'm waiting for parts and still figuring some things out so I only have done a partial teardown thus far, and was reporting the time relative to the other discussion of a 1.7 hr dealer book time for a complete plug change. Engine still has OEM plugs and removed one just for a look...

Why is that engine so dirty? I don't understand, do you drive your vehicle on the actual road?

Missed the part you were changing valve covers
