Hey guys, like the title says, at what point do you need to consider bracing the diff on Redeye/Demon? Bone stock? DR's in stock 20" size on the street? DR's in stock 20" size on the track? ET Streets in 17" at the track?

Those that have run with/without brace, at what point does losing the factory warranty outweigh the potential carnage from blowing things apart.

It depends on why you are installing it, your question starts out as one thing and then gets slightly qualified.

I have one on my stock MY16 M6 Challenger HC. IMO it does more than protect from a shattered differential. It also reduces, or even eliminates the wheel hop, which then in turn reduces the chance of a shattered differential. But getting rid of the wheel hop is beneficial in ways other than protecting the diff.

No?

BTW, I have one of the original versions. Rev B I think? There were several iterations early on...

I put one on my Daytona to help strengthen the rear and possibly help it launch better at the track. It could keep the rear together so you are not making a trip to the dealer to fix it. It did improve the 60ft times.

This question could've been asked by me. Exactly same setup (for now) and same thoughts/ questions. Hope it gets a lot of hits. Thinking of getting the latest DIRS. Am curious how the earlier designs fair long term ( gear noise /durability/ interior, body noise shocks) and why such a big design change seamed worthy of doing. The earlier, seams like the most strait forward ,practical and simple design to get the job done adequately.

As I recall, there was someone that had a highly modified Challenger the still blew the rear out with one of the first generations of diff brace. So after that they changed up the design a little.

If you're under warranty, I wouldn't run one unless I were on DR's running it hard on sticky tracks every weekend....then I'd consider it since your warranty is void if it breaks at the track anyway.

If your gonna race it & on DR's ?.... I would put a diff brace on it , you can always take it off if you need to.

Hundreds of passes on 17" MT ETs in a 5000lb 10 second Charger... no brace, no breakage.
It's been shown to void a warranty or two.
Plenty have broken with the brace.

It probably doesn't do more harm than good, but the good has largely been anecdotal based on what I've been seeing for the last couple years. Some have less wheel hop some felt no difference. It isn't a perfect solution for anything, but a partial solution for some.

In my opinion, if someone puts good tires on the rear of our cars (Demon, Redeye or Hellcat), upgrade the driveshaft and rear diff brace are a must.

Complete these two mods before adding any tires or power to the car.

Reasoning: why snap a driveshaft or a diff and cause $2.5k to +$7k damage to our cars because of wheel hop or lose of traction. Doesn't make sense. Little preventive maintenance if always the safer and less costly route.

4" Drive Shaft = $1.8k for part and labor
Rear Diff Brace = $400 for part and labor

Equals = $2.2k preventive maintenance versus above $2.5k to +$7K

Simple answer is no it is not necessary on a Redeye or Demon. If a Demon can go 9.65 without one why do you need one? If you have a bunch of mods then maybe but stock on a DR the driveshaft and diff should be fine on a Redeye or Demon. If you run a brace they wont warranty the diff. If you run DR's well just swap back to your old tires when and if you need to service it.

I have one on my car that came from the very first batch made.
I had 1 small issue.
Well not really because I check the car often.
I had the vertical bolts come loose once. I retightened them and used a torque wrench to tighten them the same. 1.5 years later still good.
From the beginning of May to the end of Oct this car runs pretty much once a week with 10 runs easily an average visit. It has more runs than that but it's a good average measure.
I have had it with stock tires, 20" Nitto's, 17" Et R's, and also with a drag pack. I am on stock power still so I guess not as hard on it ss modified car but I do get 1.50 60' times with the stock 2.62.
As @Dman007 mentioned. This is the first mod I would do.

Got the 20" NT05's DR's coming this weekend. 315's that will fit better with my Phillips flares. I got the standard warranty (although every other day I get an E-mail to extend it). I just can't see myself not touching this car for 3yrs (or longer if I extend!). That's why I'd like to know what really works on these cars, not what voids the warranty.

@coolblue for you folks to the south of us the diff really isn't that expensive compared to what they go for up here. The high hp cars that had failures with the early or lesser version of the brace did not tear up the car horribly. The brace even in these few cases helped keep the carnage down imo.
I remember on the old site someone broke the diff and the damage was unbelievable. Floor pans, exhaust, axles and I believe brake or fuel lines got damaged.
The damage was 12 or 14k worth of parts and labour at the dealer.
I'm going by memory as it was 3yrs ago now.
So when the brace came out I jumped on it. Been very satisfied with it. It really helped control wheelhop in my car.
So if by some fluke you break the diff and they don't warranty it because of the brace you are out of pocket possibly less than 1k if you can work on it your self.
The alternative is you break it and damage everything around it. Then the dealer doesn't honour your warranty because of abuse or whatever. Now you have a huge bill out of pocket.

As far as this warranty nonsense goes. I remember Jay Leno driving a RE with someome from Dodge or SRT. He mentioned on the drive that the car is warrantied even racing it because it is an SRT. 🤷‍♂️

I may be wrong but it is my understanding that only the Demon is warrantied during racing. Not the Hellcat or RE. I’d hate to be the guy that goes in with a broken diff and says it must be warrantied because they saw it on a video...

If you are referring to my comment. I may not have conveyed my intention properly.
I did not mean they would warranty the diff for instance. I figured there is enough info to show they probably won't.
I just thought it interesting that someone high on FCA food chain would make this comment on air. Fwiw this was also after we heard of many declined warranty repairs.

Sorry for the confusion.
I agree with you and I wasn't suggesting someone try the I saw it on YouTube thing.

Also just above that comment I wrote that if you broke it you would likely be on the hook for a big bill.
I thought it was clear. 🤷‍♂️

Question: Is the Demon warrantied for 3 years for drag racing or is the warranty period longer?

Put one on the minute you get home from the dealer IMO. Cheap insurance.

It works like this..... people who have a brace will say it is needed and people who don't have the brace will say it is not needed.

I'll take my chances. I am pretty sure diffs have broken even with the brace.
