That Thunderbird was made the year I was born! That was quite a car when they produced them. You still own?

F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas standard equipment on 1969 Mach 1 w/428 SCJ. Was not too difficult to lay 100 yards of rubber on the road then.

Yup. I remember driving home on radial tires for the first time. What a difference.
My 1971 Charger left the factory equipped with bias ply G60-15 GY Polyglas GTs. When I restored it I had the option of the reproductions of the original bias ply tires or BFG 245/60-15 TA Radials. I chose the radials.

Oh yes, I remember them. my dad had winter sets and summer sets for his Road Runner and my mom's Satellite. I got to lug those wheels/tires up and down the steps of our basement twice a year. The rears were the typical snow tires of the late 60's/early 70's.
Those snow tires sure did make for a nice burnout pic full of smoke pouring off of them.
I remember the transition to radials also.

And just for fun since we're traveling down memory lane......how about when they started making the new cars run on unleaded and they first put that nozzle restrictor in so you couldn't put regular gas in an unleaded car. Well.....until some sneeky company came up with a plastic nozzle adapter.

Remember when radials were being introduced and the manufacturers all guaranteed them against flats !

Anyone have Firestone 500's ?? I did & have never purchased another tire from them since !

I no longer have my Thunderbird. I had to get rid of it before I went into the military. One of the many things I regret doing during my lifetime.

I had these on my car for many years. BFG T/A Belted (not radials) L60x15 rear and G70x15 fronts. Car had a 1965 race Hemi in it with a Doug Nash Pro-shift 4 speed. I had to be very careful...those were good old days!

My 70 RR had N50-15 on the rear...looked like a stinkbug it sat so high in the back, I could touch the rear bumper with my belt when standing next to it!

Yup, lol. And I`m guessing you had the Gabriel Hijackers installed in the back aired up to 90lbs like I had on my 68 roadrunner too!

My '69 Grand Prix had bias ply Tiger Paws on it when I bought it. I started my radial tire journey with a set of Bridgestone fabric radials. Still remember everyone telling my tire pressure was low. Those things had sidewall bulge that was unbelievable.

Boy you were asking for trouble with that setup, improved your driving skills real quick (slowed down) or you didn't last

It didn't help that the bias plys were in front, the radials were in back and it was jacked up with air shocks. Rears were LR78-15 snow tires off my grandfathers Cadillac Coup de Ville.
