Agreed, modern "HEMI" motors aren't even hemi-spherical at all!

Somebody post up pictures of the two combustion chambers and it will be immediately obvious.

the basic design architecture of crossflow air path, dual rocker shafts, top-center spark plug(s) carries through. The Gen3 improves in several areas that technology advancement over the years revealed certain shortcomings of the Gen I and II, especially when normally aspirated.

Gen 3 is sort of a squashed hemisphere. Interesting that the Ford Boss 429 was similar. All had splayed pushrods and canted valves.

The Hellcat "Hemi" is like a non alcoholic beer. The name is on the packaging, but its just not remotely the same inside.

I bet some genius at Stellantis will push for hemispherical battery cells, so they can brand the new EV garbage as having a Hemi as well.

Even the 4.7 V8 and 3.7 V6 Powertech/Magnums were considered "semi-hemis"

I think having the spark plugs in the top of the heads and somewhat hemispherical rather than wedge shape combustion chambers is close enough for me to not mind calling it a Hemi. It’s just different than the old Hemi’s.

I was sitting at work thinking they weren't really the same.

Then I started thinking about putting a hellcat blower on a real hemi engine. 🤔

The 2 engines are very close in design, both share intake and exhaust ports that are laterally opposed, valves sitting at an angle on top of the combustion chamber, also double rockers. Yes, the chamber on the newer engine is almond shaped. According to Chevy/Ford guys this make it not a Hemi. I guess the Gen II(426) engine isn't a Hemi either because the chamber on the exhaust side is slightly shortened so it would fit in passenger cars(not a true half-dome) lol. Also, I believe Tom Hoover had some input on the Gen III design-raised cam tunnel, twin spark plugs. Both engines are pretty damn similar in my view.

This is what you get paid to do at work?

In all fairness, I would LIKE to believe Dodge followed the philosophy of the Hemi and applied available technology to analyze the design, then optimize it way beyond what could have been imagined back in the day. Using the Hemi name was marketing genius, and only us old farts care enough to sit on our asses and type about it.

I am just thrilled that they were able to put together a supercar that can drive me to the grocery store every few days without requiring new plugs every 3 weeks! I continue to be amazed how well designed these engines are!

I thought I read years ago when the 5.7 was introduced that the engine is based on a European design? It was a departure from the old V-8 design as far as oiling and cooling. There’s no lifter galley, etc.

I was referring to the cylinder heads. As far as the block goes, it's similar to an old LA small block. The stroke on the Hellcat/5.7 is the same as the old LA 360 (3.58). If there's Euro influence on it I wouldn't know. I think the bellhousing pattern is the same as an old LA small block.?
