I would hope that they at least use a Hunter machine with road force balancing. Then, as you pointed out, the machine should be calibrated correctly. And it's quite important that the Smart Weight setting is turned off. Otherwise the tires won't be balanced nearly as well as they could be.

These days it's unfortunately much easier to find a store with the good Hunter equipment than one that also has a person who truly knows how to use it.

Heck, I recently got a set of tires and wheels from Tire Rack, and in normal fashion put them on the balancer since I know they use Smart Weight. This time the balancing was unusually bad. Not so much the numbers, but two of the wheels had weights 180 degrees apart, on the same plane.

On one I simply pulled the same amount off in both places, and sure enough, perfect balance.

Anyway, the amount of weights used really isn't an issue. I often end up with the wheel with the most weights having the lowest road force numbers. So much for putting the least amount of weights in the front...if the tires are correctly balanced.
I use a little tire shop up the road that have a couple racers that work there. They understand what is needed to get your tires right.

Too many times people at the big stores have no clue.

I’ve used Discount Tire in Phoenix and here in UT on all my vehicles. Have only ever had the one issue which wasn’t their fault, it was just a bad tire.

Not all of them are bad haha.

2020 hcwb....Driving above or below 85 and the vibration/pulse is gone. 85mph and you feel the vibration through the steering wheel, brake and gas pedals and the floor boards.

Tire balance?
Driveshaft?

Any thoughts appreciated. Has nitto slicks on the back and stock tires on the front.
I had the same issue on the Redeye. It turned out to be a tire balance issue.

Good old flat spots.
The easy solution to flat spots is get some 1/2" thick pink foam sheet insulation and cut squares to park on.

The most common cause of vibration is bad balance.

I have to wonder if the DR's are cold and unhappy, or maybe they moved on the wheel. Did you mark the wheel and tire when you installed them?

Mine definitely move. They were marked and the detail guy rubbed them off with tire shine.
They'll need to be rebalanced after this next event.

Agree here, these cars seem to have a resonance point around 85 mph, seen lots of posts on it over the years and 85 mph a repeating number in the posts, mine the same, but comes and goes, the more rubber you take out of the isolation points (cradle bushings, Diff brace, etc) the more you feel it.

Simple solution: Don't go so damn slowly.

85 is for when stuck behind someone and waiting for it to be clear to pass. I have paid for eight gears, so I want to use them all.

There's a fine line between rubber actually being black, and shining...

You show me one tire that ever came off the production line that was shinny and then I'll agree with you . Maybe those Piss Zero tires do though LOL

Some Toyos do. Recently got a set of AT IIIs and thought somebody had smeared some of that miserable tire goop on them.

I'm still hoping for the 6-door.
