Finally replaced the battery with a AGM one and also installed a CTek tender.

Would be nice to drive it if it would stop snowing in NJ for even a couple of days. State loves to dump salt and brine the roads.

Learned how to use a DA polisher. Used a very forgiving compound and pad cause... newb. But the paint feels smooth again, not like sandpaper.

Yikes....how did yer cat get so abused in the first place...whadda doin,,haulin umber with it???I'm better than most when it comes to detailin...not so sure I would take a DA to the finish...one wrong move..and its to the paint booth...

What compund and pad combination did you use?

I bought one of the paint thickness meters (two really) and checked before and after to make sure I wasn't taking any notable clear coat off.

I don't know how much experience you have but it's really not the compound or pad it's making sure you don't stay in one place very long because then you start to burn the paint. I was buffing out the show cars of World of Wheels back in those days and the little secret I learned is keeping the pad moving and only applying the weight of the buffer.

Exactly, no pressure and a cross hatching pattern no bigger than the width of my body and keep it moving.

If you have it nearly perfect (it looks good on your pictures) and just some small things to cleanup, then, do the second polish with a black pad also and not the orange correcting pad.

Black is for very fine polish and wax AFTER correcting with the appropriate polish with the orange pad.

I’ll use Complete Compound with orange to correct like you did.
Then Complete Polish or their even more fine polishes equal to #4 or their Fine Hand Polish. Those remove the very fine micro marks that may remain after the step you did. Then always wax with black.
