I figured this would be a fine winch. Anyone used one with these heavy cars?

My ATC is a great trailer. Tows like a dream. I'm actually pulling it right now heading home from Bradenton. I highly recommend 1 of these trailers or an Intec.

I looked into the Harbor Freight winches when needing one for a vehicle last year.

While the prices were quite appealing, there were far too many reviews of broken and non-functional winches for my liking. Recently I decided to put a winch on a trailer, and bypassed Harbor Freight again, for the same reason.

In my case, if the winch didn't work for whatever reason, the result would be a bit different than for you, jonx96.
For one, I'd most likely be alone, and either with a stuck 16,000-lb. vehicle, or trying to get a dead vehicle of some sort up on a deckover trailer.

I obviously hope it works for you, but I'm guessing that the worst case would be that you had to summon a few nearby people to help push your car into the trailer.

And please let me know how you like that wireless remote. That I could use for the flatbed, and if it doesn't work it's merely a matter of using the regular corded one instead.

I get it. It's just that I prefer a larger safety margin.

We have comparable weight cars on the trailers, but the largest difference is in the tow vehicles. Mine has a longer wheelbase than a crew cab longbed pickup, and weighs about 9,400 lbs.

Also, the inherent stability of the gooseneck trailer is in a different league than a bumper pull. Yes, it's almost overkill for trailering a little car, but I think that's much better than something that merely works. View attachment 91737

While it's not a foolproof setup (especially with me driving), it's far safer should something go wrong. And there has been a few times when things didn't go wrong because of it. Such as coming into a curve way too hot.
I don't like towing with a 1/2-ton at all, but if I must, this is about the upper limit. View attachment 89595
One thing I will say for you...you always over engineer in the name of safety...that probably explains your using ball peen hammers for fly swatters...:oops::oops:;)

Ball peen hammers?!? Hell, no, not as long as I have access to my trusty .22, or a sledge.

It's really a side effect of shooting sod poodles. They generally have flies on and around them.

Are you guys relying on charging through the 7-way connector?

As I'm slowly gathering parts and pieces for my trailer winch setup, one thing I'd like to do is set the winch up to accept a wrecker type quick disconnect so the trailer battery can be connected to the tow vehicle's batteries.

With my luck the trailer battery will run out of voltage, which is hard on the winch motor, and the few amps trickling in from the trailer plug won't noticeably help any.

I am considering doing this. But have not done it. I would think if it could trickle charge from the truck would be the best way.

Your trailer should already be setup that way. Mine is.

I do not have a winch from factory in my trailer.

I'm talking about charging the battery from the truck while it's hooked up.

I don’t believe it has a battery. But I have spent about 5 minutes with it. It is not at my house right now because I don’t have space for it right now
